Our "Kick off" with the Team

April 21st, 2010

The Haiti 2010 Team met on April 21st and initiated our Kick off. As the team gathered we realized how close our departure date was arriving. Our Team members include Elaine Knight the founder of LifePaths, Fatima Haleem - our Executive Director, 3 physiotherapists from St.Joseph's Hospital, London and 1 from Prince County Hospital - Prince Edward Island.

We began the process of preparing for the journey with a presentation to assist us with the mental, physical and emotional requirements of travelling with a purpose. We discussed the stresses we would be enduring and how they will affect us.

We were fortunate to be introduced to meditation techniques and were provided with personal disks to ensure our understanding of meditating. Kevin Skyler from The Happy Monk offered a simple method that we practised as a group.

Jenny from the Salt Water Therapy clinic generously donated a complimentary therapy soak for each of us to enjoy following our return.

Although the intensity of the evening was a little overwhelming it gave us an opportunity to openly discuss our fears and enhance our already tight bond that we have developed with each other.

Our evening ended with a complimentary Haitian dinner prepared by Dave McMurray owner of Whiskful Thinking.

We are all aware of the stresses, both cognitively and physically this journey will take us - however, we are also aware of the goodness we are taking with us - and the hope that we will bring home.
