Grannies for Haiti!
Haiti

They were swallowed, as if mother earth grew hollow hearted from light footed steps on dusty roads begging for food and mercy.
Cruel, don't hurt me, coward powered rebels riddled in artillery playing cops and robbers.
Smiles from children to scarred to cry anymore, a tragedy of tragedies, it took hundreds of thousands of lives to make us realize that pain brings us together in moments of loss, costs to heavy to bear for hungry pockets.
Lockets of family affection left in tested waters proven poison.

A little Haitian boy told me it was voodoo that did it, he said only dark magic could take a soul as pure as his mothers.
So he was going to go dig, and help the grownups battle underground demons.

Foreign countries send money, some just to save face when mentioned on TV, commercials, infomercials, blogs, websites, strikes and in night prayers.

Taking sight and interest in the cause, but I am at a loss, why were we not being helped and felt before the quake?

Ached stomachs and salivating minds starving for knowledge were common before devastation.

Situations of survival were are primal, dog eat dog, before they go for humans.

But still, the children still find a way to play soccer and the people still seem to want to offer what's been given to them.

Joy filled tears mixed with years of wisdom still prosper and people can smile over a piece of bread.

So give freely, as much with your hearts as your currency, and know that dark skin signifies the same thing as beauty.

And who wouldn't give a helping hand to something so beautiful, and has still yet to bloom.

Dr. Joseph Prosper

Meet Dr. Joseph Prosper (Dr. Joey), a 38-year-old physician currently working with LifePaths Global Alliance. Dr. Joey runs the LGA Medical Centre in L’estere and also provides several outreach services to the rural population by offering mobile clinics.

We followed Dr. Joey on a few of his 15 hour work days while we were in Haiti. We would leave early in the morning and drive for three and half hours on uneven and rutted roads to see people in a rural community. The doctor would see everyone who came to the clinic and a makeshift pharmacy would be set up to hand out medication to patients, however, the necessary medication would not always be available. Everyone would be huddled under a tent; put together some bricks, throw on a piece of board and there you would have a clinic right in the middle of a small rural community desperately needing medical attention.

Since the earthquake, Dr. Joey has been providing free services to those who cannot afford medical care and has received very little funding from other organizations working in Haiti. There are many other Dr. Joeys in Haiti right now trying to do the best they can with what little resources they have, and some even before the earthquake.

LGA has found a better way for Dr. Joey to deliver medical care to these people that will allow him to use his valuable time more efficiently. LGA saw an opportunity for telemedicine in Haiti since having a telemedicine system would eliminate the long travel to and from these rural communities. With the help of telemedicine, Dr. Joey can focus on providing quality medical care to the patients instead of wasting hours travelling.

Thank you Dr. Joey and God Bless

Thank you Soccer Champions!!!
This past Sunday, I had the privilege of attending the Kensal Park Soccer BBQ. It was fantastic!!

The soccer players generously donated their uniforms to send to Haiti!

Over 350 uniforms have been collected and they are still arriving this week.

The event was fabulously organized which complimented the great turnout! I met many future soccer champions...what a great day!!

LifePaths Global alliance gave the "Players" a V.I.P. card to honor their generous hearts.

"WE've GOT YOUR BACK!!!"

"WE've GOT YOUR BACK!!!"

In Haiti, safe and sound and in the town of L'estere!

We saw 50 patients yesterday in our mobile clinic with Dr. Joey and the people were so grateful. We have only had internet for a short while so I will keep you posted as we go. Training starts this week for our health care team for the telemedicine project. Very different this time as we are living in the rural area which is quite different than Port au Prince.

Love Elaine and Fatima

Haitian Proverb..."Dye mon, gen mon" Beyond the mountain is another mountain (A proverb of both patience and the recognition of how difficult life in Haiti is.)

I know we have all been anxious to hear from our gals.....They have arrived safely - however, the power is out and they are unable to communicate via internet etc.
I will keep everyone current - when I hear anything...I will pass it on...most importantly, they are there and the work has begun!!!

Have a Safe Journey...Elaine and Fatima!

They are off again!!! Wednesday, August 18th Fatima and Elaine are leaving for their second Journey to Haiti this year. Fatima and Elaine will be concentrating on the Medical Aid program designed to compliment the TELEMEDICINE PROJECT. Local Haitians have been training with Dr. Joey Prosper the past few weeks and together a team has been built!

As we send our support with Fatima and Elaine, it is comforting to be aware of the extraordinary efforts that are taking place with LifePaths Global Alliance.

Stay well Ladies, God Bless and know we love you!

Your friends and supporters,
xx
